KARACHI: Sindh Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution to establish Sindh Women Parliamentary Caucus.
The resolution was tabled by PPP MPA and Parliamentary Secretary Planning and Development Department, Irum Khalid and was unanimously approved by all parties in the assembly.
Speaking on the occasion, Irum Khalid applauded other parties in the assembly over this matter and said that the assembly should unite over violence against women.
Shedding a light on the purpose of forming women caucus, Khalid said that their main objectives were to attain a broad-based consensus among women parliamentarians on an agreed agenda for women’s development, empowerment and emancipation, enabling them to work beyond party lines for the uplift of the women of Pakistan.
“We committed ourselves to work for the enhancement of the role of women parliamentarians in proposing gender sensitive legislation, reviewing and amending discriminatory laws and policies,” she said.
She said that the caucus would resolve problems being faced by women in the province including problem of maternal death, entrepreneurship among women, legislation on violence against women, gender and disaster preparedness and on right to education.
