Lahore: In pursuance to the instructions of the Prime Minister, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has planted 40,000 saplings at Tarbela Dam and about 30,000 saplings at Mangla Dam by March 31.
It is pertinent to mention that the Prime Minister, during his visit to Tarbela Dam Project on the occasion of ground-breaking of the 1410-MW Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project on February 26, had directed WAPDA Chairman for maximum tree plantation in the project area of Tarbela and Mangla dams.
In line with the directions of the Prime Minister, project managements of Tarbela and Mangla dams were asked by WAPDA to launch enthusiastic tree plantation campaign in their respective projects. A target of planting 40,000 saplings at Tarbela and 30,000 saplings at Mangla was set for the month of March in this regard. Subsequently, vigorous tree plantation campaigns were launched at both the projects under the leadership of WAPDA Chairman. With concerted efforts of the projects’ management and active involvement of the employees, the targets set forth have successfully been achieved.
Besides planting the saplings, allied arrangements have also been made at the two projects including periodical watering and looking after the plants etc. About 30,000 saplings have also been planted on other WAPDA projects.
In compliance with the Government’s policy, tree plantation at both projects will help make the country green and environment friendly.
