Karachi: Pakistan junior hockey team’s new head coach Manzoorul Hassan said on Thursday that his colts are going in Sultan of Johor Cup Invitational Junior Hockey Tournament to win the title of the event.
“Our team is good and we have some players, who also play for our senior national team. So we would be going in the tournament not only to play well in Malaysia but also to win the title,” Manzoor said before leaving for Malaysia on Thursday night.
The tournament is scheduled to run from September 22 to 29 in the Malaysian city of Johor Bahru.
Apart from Pakistan, South Korea, Pakistan, Great Britain, India, Argentina and host and defending champions Malaysia would also be seen in action during the eight-day long tournament.
“The team is in good shape and I am very hopeful of our team’s prospects in the tournament,” Manzoor reiterated.
Meanwhile, skipper Mohammad Umar Bhutta said that his team learned a lot from the new coach and added that the former Olympian’s coaching would help the team lift its performance.
“We are looking forward to learn a lot from our new coach, who has been a great player of his time,” Umar said while praising Manzoor.
Umar said that his boys were eager to feature forcefully in the tournament. He said that he and his team would try their level best to clinch the title in the tournament.
“We are going to put our best in the tournament and would try our level best to clinch the title,” he said.
Pakistan would be opening their campaign in the tournament with a match against Korea on September 22 and the next day they would take on Great Britain.
After taking a day’s rest, the greenshirts would meet traditional rival India on September 25 followed by a match with host Malaysia on September 26 and would play their last league match against Argentina on September 28 after a day’s rest.
