CM inaugurates Special Enrollment Campaign for getting children in schools


Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak has kicked off a Special Enrollment Campaign for getting those children in schools who are staying out of school due to any reason. He inaugurated the campaign by enrolling an out of school minor girl at a grand function held at Government Syed Husnain Sharif Shaheed Higher Secondary School, Peshawar Wednesday.

The provincial Education Minister Mohammad Atif Khan, Minister for mineral Development, Ziaullah Afridi, high ups of education department, representatives of the national and international non government organizations which were involved in the enrollment drive and a large number of teachers and students attended the ceremony.

Addressing the function Chief Minister Pervez khattak said that the provincial government was bringing the standard, facilities as well as the regulatory arrangements of public sector schools at par with those of good reputed private institutions. He said, through such measures the people were being attracted to the government schools so that their children could get standard education for free and be able to compete with children of elites.

He said that political interference in education department and nepotism in appointments of teachers and officials in the past had destroyed the entire system which resulted in poor performance of the schools. He, however, said that practices of political interference and favoritism have been fully curbed to the extent that even chief executive of the province is unable to make any transfer or appointment in any government department.

He added that educational institution and various other public service entities were being made autonomous for which a comprehensive and secured legislation was in the pipeline.

He told that due to newly devised monitoring system of the schools, attendance of teachers and students had reached to 95% from merely 40-50 % while teachers were made accountable for their performance through a system of rewards and punishment as well as result-based promotions. He informed that an amount of 50 million rupees was earmarked for rewarding those teachers who demonstrate extra ordinary performance and ensure marvelous academic results.

Reiterating his commitment for uniformed curriculum, Mr. Khattak said that all out endeavors were being undertaken for ensuring a secured and safe future especially for the poor and less privileged children of the province.

He said that the PTI government was fully aware of its mandate and taking steps for enabling the services departments to deliver effectively by a self sustainable, transparent and independent system.

He said that the governance machinery of the province has been put on the right track and the outcome of the process of transformation can be felt by the fact that no one in the government departments can dare to ask for bribes or kickbacks now.

He said that the change is quite visible now for which the people had given a heavy mandate to the PTI adding that in near future the people of the province will be able to view more pleasant changes.

He regretted that political influence had turned hundreds of educational institutions into ghost schools in the past, but present government has made all such schools fully functional by providing them the required teachers, staff and other facilities.

He was of the view that the teachers had no justification for ignoring their duties as they are getting handsome salaries besides earning respect from the society adding that all the needs of schools were also being fulfilled.

In this connection he told that out of 320 higher secondary schools, 200 would be fully equipped with all necessary facilities this year at a cost of two billion rupees while 5000 toilets would be constructed in the government schools during the next fiscal year.
