Peshawar : Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government to train more than 50 thousand teachers to improve quality of Education in public sector educational institutions. This was stated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Elementary and Secondary Education Mr. Atif Khan while addressing as a chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of teachers training program held at a local hotel Peshawar, this morning.
The ceremony was also attended by Additional Secretary Elementary and Secondary Education Qaisar Alam, Director Elementary and Secondary Education Rafiq Khattak, Director DCTE Bashir Hussain Shah, Nadeem Bashir of Adam Smith International, Ali Raza of Beaconhouse schools system and teachers. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister said that majority of students studying in public sector educational institutions were from middle and lower middle class, that is why PTI led government which came in to power with the slogan of change, is making all out efforts to ensure equal opportunity of quality education irrespective of their status in the society.
He added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has allocated considerable amount for cash award to the heads/teachers of public sector educational institutions for best performance by introducing “reward and punishment culture”. This would certainly improve the standard of government schools, he opined.
He was appreciative of the performance of his team in education department for outsourcing the training program in a fair and transparent manner adding that the training program would go a long way in the promotion of quality education in government schools.
He further added that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government has introduced merit based policy in recruitments in all sectors and teachers with Master, M.Phill degrees were appointed through a transparent procedure.
The pre-service and post service training will be continuous process and hundreds and thousands of teachers would be benefited from this program to build their capacity for imparting quality education. It merits to mention here that at present more than 40 lac children are enrolled in the public sector schools.
This is for the first time government has invited private sector to train government school teachers. Four organizations have been selected through a transparent process and contracts have been awarded. Total 23,500 Primary School Teachers of Grade 2 will be trained in English as medium of instruction; where Beaconhouse Public School will train 11,520 teachers in 11 Districts and AFAQ will train 5,820 teachers in 7 Districts.
Contract will be awarded to organization in this month for 6,133 teachers in 7 Districts. Around 1,950 Higher Secondary School Teachers will be trained on English and Maths where PORTAL consultant will train 1,080 English teachers in higher secondary and Socio Engineering Consultant will train 870 Mathematics teachers in higher Secondary.
Moreover, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is introducing the numbers of reforms in education sector. One of these reforms is the introduction of English as the medium of instruction in government schools in the province. English as the medium of instruction is being introduced in a phased manner. It started in Grade I in the 2014-15 academic year and from April 2015, the start of new academic year, English as a medium instruction is being introduced in Grade 2.
