Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa senior Minister for Health Shaharam Khan Tarakai has said that provision of quality health services to the public and better patients’ care in hospitals was his top priority and sole aim, and he has taken the task as a challenge adding that he has no personal agenda but to improve and strengthen the existing system of healthcare delivery system in order to ensure quality healthcare services to the poorest of poor and the neglected ones.
He expressed these views while talking to the management council and faculty members of Hayatabad Medical Complex Peshawar during his visit to the tertiary hospital on Tuesday. Chief Executive HMC, Professor Dr. Mumtaz gave a detailed briefing about the administrative matters, treatment facilities, component units, achievements, future vision and other aspects of the teaching hospital.
The senior minister said that like other social sectors, revolutionary reforms were under way in health sector as well and the existing system of health service delivery would be replaced with patients and public friendly one wherein good care will be taken of the neglected and the poor ones.
“Mere buildings were erected just for political mileage in the past and no attention was paid to the provision of required facilities in those buildings thus causing huge loss to the public exchequer”, deplored the health minister and added that such practices are over and now the existing service delivery outlets will be strengthened by providing all the required facilities and technologies instead of making buildings with no facilities.
“instead of doing things in the traditional slow pace, we will go on faster track and get things done in days instead of months in our bid to improve and strengthen the existing system of healthcare up to the needs and expectations of the public”, Shahram resolved and urged upon the hospitals managements, doctors and other staff to play their vital role to that effect.
Shahram Khan termed the approval of service structure for doctors as a big achievement of the present coalition government of the province and said that service structures for nurses and paramedics were also under consideration. During his visit to HMC, the provincial minister inaugurated Dr. Waqar Tahir Memorial Surgical ICU and CCTV Control Room of the hospital.
