Punjab govt. stops election Zakat and Usher committees

Chakwal: Punjab government has stopped the election of Zakat and Usher committees throughout the 35 districts of the province.

The reasons for stopping these elections were not told and all the concerned were directed to stop it forthwith. The election if 250 Zakat and Usher Committees of different villages have been completed out of 400 and the election process was in full swing when this order came and all the elections were stopped.

Chairman District Zakat and Usher Committee Chakwal, Malik Akram Awan told on Tuesday that these Zakat and Usher Committees have completed the terms of four years and new elections were due. He further told that the tenure of present District Chairman Zakat and Usher Committees in all the 35 districts of the province would be ended on 30th April, 2014.

It is learned that Punjab government suspended these elections due to the pressure of opposition parties as local bodies’ elections are scheduled to be held on 30th January and Punjab government adopted a defensive approach in this regard.
