QUETTA: We believe in Constitution, Judiciary, media and freedom of masses. Our forefathers did not bow before any dictator. If time comes we would repeat this history. No newspaper or Media house would be allowed to close because these work to spread awareness among the masses.
These views were expressed by Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch while addressing at a luncheon he hosted for office bearers and members of CPNE at CM Secretariat here Saturday.
Luncheon was attended among others by provincial ministers, Secretary General national party Tahir Bizenjo, Provincial President PMAP Osman Kakar, Spokesman person to Chief Minister Jan Muhammad Buledi, Home Secretary Akbar Hussain Durrani, Secretary Information Abdullah Jan, President National party Balochistan Dr Yaseen Baloch and others.
Welcoming office bearers and members of CPNE to Quetta Chief Minister said it is day to pleasure for us that senior journalists from all over the country have come here. We have fought with them for democracy and supremacy of people. We have several things common. We have struggled jointly for democracy and people and held protests on the roads. We understand we are close to each other and can wage better struggle jointly with civil society and democratic forces.
He said there is government of National party, Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party and PML-N in the province. He said after general elections President PML-N Muhammad Nawaz Sharif invited to form government. We have no idea of this earlier. He said when his government assumed power we were facing several challenges. We divided problems in two parts. One is political and other economic. Our success is because we started work on projects lying pending for the last five six years he said adding during the previous regime there were talks only about Gwadar but no attention was paid to making it functional.
So roads required for it were not built. Now we are building roads to link Gwadar with whole of country and during eight months we are working on 150 Km Nag-Panjgur section. Work on Kalat-Quetta-Chaman an important road suspended for long has begun. Difficulties were being faced due to absence of transmission lines of electricity. We paid full attention on completion of transmission lines. WAPDA officials have told Khuzdar-Ratto Dero Line would be completed within 15 days while D G Khan-Loralai transmission line would be completed by July 15. On completion of these liens supply of electricity would improve greatly.
Work on Kachhi canal was underway and it would be completed upto Dera Bugti this year.
Full attention has been paid on education sector in the province and we have increased education budget to 24 percent from 4 percent. He aid target we fixed for education requires at least Rupees 60 billion which we cannot meet alone.
Similarly law and order situation has become quite better in the province. Incidents of abduction for ransom have stopped. Target killings have also been controlled to a great extent. Our national highways are now safe.
Chief Minister said insurgency in the province was continuing and we are trying to hold talks with Baloch insurgents but we could not agree them for it. However our efforts were underway.
DR Malik Baloch said we are striving for end to sectarianism and we have kept all schools of thought on board. He said he was empowered for holding talks with Baloch insurgents at the APC and he fully enjoys complete support of military and political leadership.
Provincial government was working on promotion of mother tongues. Steps were underway for good governance. We still adhere to measures we announced for journalists and completing them. FIRs of journalists martyred their heirs have been paid compensation. If anyone did not receive he should contact us.
Balochistan Chief Minister said we are with democratic forces for people’s democratic supremacy. Our elders did not bow to any dictator. If there was any occasion we would repeat their history.
He said we would not let any newspaper of media house to close. None is angry in Balochistan. There is a thinking from 1948 all resources should be mobilized to pave way for talks. But there was no success yet efforts were underway.
Earlier President CPNE Mujeebur Rehman Shami said it was our desire since long to visit Quetta. The way Chief Minister Dr Malik Baloch welcomed us is exemplary.
He said role played by Dr Malik Baloch for 18 th constitutional amendment is not hidden to anyone. He is first Awami Chief Minister of Balochistan. Corruption was committed in province in the past and good governance was a problem. It is hoped problems of way would be paved for progress and resolution of problems under the leadership of Dr Malik Baloch.
He aid angry brothers should also understand best way to secure rights is political and democratic struggle. He said after coming to Quetta we released situation was improving gradually. People’s trust in Chief Minister was restoring.
He requested to Chief Minister that compensation announced by the government and journalists did not get their heirs should be paid it earlier. He said constitution of Judicial Commission for journalists is welcome move. Killers of journalists should be traced earlier.
Provincial minister Dr Hamid Achakzai also spoke on the occasion.
