QUETTA: Fleecing of fasting public goes on unchecked during holy Month of Ramzan by hoarders and others in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. Businessmen and shopkeepers were receiving prices of commodities of their choice in the absence of price control committees and checking.
According to details prices of daily use items have soared and their prices are two to three times more than pre Ramzan prices. Mangoes were available at Rupees 60 to 70 per Kg before Ramzan which have touched Rupees one hundred per kilo. Potatoes are now being sold at Rupees 70 per kg. Tomatoes are available for Rupees 40 to 50 per Kg than Rupees 20 to 30 before Ramzan in Quetta, Sibi, Pishin, Chaman, Zhob, Khuzdar, Loralai, Nasirabad, Dera Murad Jamali and other areas. Price of mutton, meat, chicken, fish, eggs and others have also sky rocketed and violation of government rates was very clearly evident.
This trend of sky rocketing of prices of daily items have worried low and medium income segment of society as their buying power exists no more.
On the other hand load shedding of electricity was also going on despite claims of WAPDA authorities of no load shedding during seher, Iftar and taraveeh timings. There is 6 to 8 hours load shedding in Quetta and in other areas 18 to 20 hours. Above all WAPDA authorities warn of legal and other actions against such reports. Load shedding has caused water shortage during this holy month. People have demanded of severe action against those responsible for load shedding.
