KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Tuesday allowed two-week time to registrar and vice chancellor of Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST) to submit their comments on a petition seeking appointment of dean Faculty of Business Administration, Commerce and Economic at the university.
A division bench of SHC headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah adjourned the hearing of the case till January 22, 2014 after counsel appearing on behalf of the registrar and vice chancellor of the university requested the court for more time to file comments.
The petitioner, Dr Suleman D Muhammad, professor and PhD scholar, at FUUAST, Abdul Haq Campus, submitted in the petition that registrar of the university was duty bound to appoint dean of the faculty strictly in accordance with rules and regulations.
He said that he came to know through newspaper that vice chancellor of the university had also held the charge of dean of the faculty Business Administration, Commerce and Economics. He said that being senior professor, he fulfilled required qualification for appointment as dean of the faculty and added that he had also served as dean of the faculty for period of three years, which completed on December 17, 2013.
The petitioner represented by advocate Muhammad Safdar stated that vice chancellor of the university was not fulfilling the legal obligation and wanted to accommodate non-eligible and blue-eyed person.
He said that registrar and vice chancellor of the university had issued re-appointment order of dean of Arts December 19, 2013 whose tenure completed on December 16, 2013 but failed to appoint dean Faculty of Business Administration, Commerce and Economics.
He requested the court to declare that retaining of power of dean of faculty by vice chancellor of the university was illegal in presence of eligible person for the said post and also issue directives for appointing an eligible person as dean of faculty.
