KARACHI: Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) has decided to open an Intermediate College in the premises of its Malir Campus. It was also decided that a Technical Training Center would also be established at the same place. In this respect, Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh, Vice Chancellor of Sindh Madressatul Islam University said on Wednesday that there were many schools in the area, where SMIU’s Malir Campus is located, but there is no intermediate college in the immediate reach of the local students, who belong mostly to low income families. This is why; SMIU has decided to open an intermediate college there to cater modern and quality education to them.
“It is the same objective that was behind the establishment of Sindh Madressatul Islam in 1885,” he said and added that SMI was founded to give modern and quality education to the Muslim students of Sindh, who were marginalized in the colonial period.
He further said that SMIU had decided to equip young generation of the area of Malir with technical education by opening a Technical Training Center there. He said initially general electric, agriculture, woodwork; plumbing and sewing trades would be started for both the male and female students. The Vice Chancellor said through technical training students of the neglected area would be able to get jobs in there own area as well as in main Karachi city or can open their own workshops over there.
